The age you are talking about is already here. I personally have 3 different USB sticks with Linux on them.
One with Ubuntu, one with Fedora, and one with Pendrivelinux.

I have been saying this for a while now. At first I got crazy looks but not so much anymore.
The only time this won't happen is where custom hardwares are involved, like in a media production suite and what-not.
