How to switch to the Mac without losing your Windows lifeline

Takeaway: With Apple's market growing, more IT organizations are considering the possibility of adding Macintosh desktops and laptops into the support mix. Besides money, the primary roadblock to replacing a Windows machine with a Mac is an inability to run Windows-only tools, such as ERP software. Learn how to overcome this obstacle in your organization and add Apple hardware to your "officially supported" list.

Another product to consider

Another product to consider for virtualization is Sun's VirtualBox; it's open source (hence free)

Headaches on the Horizon

First are you running a mixed shop? If so where is the logic in this move. If not why are you support personal laptops or better yet why are they being allowed on the network? What this article does is open up a bunch of questions on security, logic of running an Mac/Windows shop etc. Running Windows in a Linux shop is enough of an issue without adding Mac in to the mix. To put it simple I would hate to be an administrator in a shop like this.

Support in academia

Normally, I'd agree with you, but in some cases, it's unavoidable. I work at a college and we do support both Windows and Mac computers. We do not support Linux.

Most of our client base is Windows, but about 8% is Mac and will probably stay that way for the forseeable future.

I am a Windows guy; but my wife owns a Mac

I am a Windows guy; but my wife owns a Mac. I will summarize the whole experience in this: the MAC OS is user oriented, and the Windows is tech oriented. Thats how i see things. If you are a techie, and you come from the Windows world, you will most likely be asking yourself how to do this or that in a Mac. Thats probably the hardest part, and the only reason why i would install those virtualization programs.

But... once Mac...hard to go back...well it might be true. For instance, ive now replaced (after many years) my many Windows Mobile 6 smartphones for an Iphone. it lacks of many tech stuff but...it is just a different and better world and life is good...so far.

Sidekick: The Good News & the Bad News
Either way you look at it Microsoft Data Center management did not follow standards or best practices in this failure. In which case it makes me wonder more about the outsourcing of corporate data much less personal data.
