U.S. senators on Thursday struggled at a committee hearing to understand AT&T's explanation for how exclusive deals for phones like the iPhone stimulate innovation.
With all the issues facing our nation at this time we are worried whether some kid can get cel service in his deer stand. Ridiculous, Iphones are cool but there is NO reason every person absolutely has to have one. If you can't get cel service or don't want AT&T as a carrier, then just choose a different phone. It's not a life or death thing to have to get a specific brand. I expect this kind of "it's not fair, I want one too" stuff from a small child; not grown adults.

Nothing
This has nothing to do with the kid in the tree stand. This has to do with anti-trust laws that are broken by the deals between Apple and AT&T, Nokia and T-Mobile, etc. The Sherman act was passed to protect consumers choice in part and by entering exclusive contracts that choice has been taken away. The position taken by AT&T on innovation is illogical and not based on any evidentual fact. Competion drives innovation not exclusive deals between makers and carriers. Research economics and past history where force competition has lead to development of better technology.
