Carrier IQ doth protest too much; shouldst really quit the incriminating denials

Carrier IQ continues attempts to convince the public that making an app that monitors 100 million cell phones doesn't mean Carrier IQ monitors phones. And, if the FBI got Carrier IQ data about user activities, it came from a Carrier IQ customer, not Carrier IQ. OK? We cool now?

Carrier IQ issued report last night with further clarifications designed to get smartphone users to believe the top quality spyware it makes is not, in fact, spyware. It should concentrate on the real issue: not that spyware is made, but that carriers use it covertly on their customers.

The worst aspect of the no-privacy interweb is the presumption by developers that they're now allowed to add spyware to previously legitimate software, add backdoors they can use to check your PC or tag and track you like an endangered seal across the Internet.

Microsoft to claim a right to rummage around in your Windows 8 hard drive

Microsoft is claiming the right to go into PCs of customers unannounced and fool around with apps downloaded from the upcoming Windows (app) Store in case it doesn't like what they're doing. Sounds like the digital equivalent of an involuntary strip search.

Marketing for spyware-maker Carrier IQ contradicts its denial that it doesn't spy on users

Carrier IQ issued a statement saying its monitoring app can tell if a text was sent, but not what it said. Its marketing page says it can capture keystrokes and screen shots, just as a security researcher charged. Nokia and RIM still deny using it, despite evidence to the contrary.

The FBI used spyware to catch a Massachusetts man who tried to extort Verizon and Comcast by cutting 18 data- and voice-carrying cables in 2005, documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act by Wired.com revealed yesterday.

If the company provides the computer, the company owns the computer and has the sole right to decide how the employee uses that computer and what software can be loaded. Locking down Windows-based systems stop a wide variety of security problems.

Have you recently received a pop-up message saying that your computer is infected with a virus and asks you to download a program (called Antivirus XP 2008 or 2009) in order to scan for and remove these viruses?
