July 09, 2002, 10:02 AM — Synchronization software maker Pumatech Inc. will discontinue three of its product lines, cut 15 jobs and close its plant in Santa Cruz, California, in an attempt to focus on selling mobile computing services for enterprise customers, the company announced.
The San Jose, California, company will no longer host its Mind-it, Browse-it and Sync-it services and is currently trying find a partner to sell and support its Web-based synchronization software developed for carriers, Pumatech said in a statement Monday.
The company did not say how many customers are currently using the discontinued products, but did say that it is considering the possibility of licensing or selling the intellectual property behind Sync-it, Mind-it and Browse-it to a third party.
Pumatech will focus its efforts on its Intellisync desktop synchronization product package as well as its Enterprise Intellisync and Satellite Forms software, the company said.
Pumatech currently has 107 employees, according to a spokesman from the company's U.K. division. The company cut about 60 jobs in February.
Pumatech expects to complete its job layoffs and factory closure by July 31, when its fourth fiscal quarter closes, the company said.
In May, Pumatech reported a net loss of US$4.46 million for its third quarter ended April 30. That compares to a loss of $5.1 million in the third quarter of the previous year. The company posted revenue of $5.7 million for the quarter, well below its reported revenue of $10.2 million in the third quarter of 2001.
