No indictments sought against us, WorldCom says

WorldCom Inc. said Thursday it had not received notice of any indictment against the company or its officers, responding to a report which appeared earlier Thursday in the Wall Street Journal.

The report said indictments would be laid by the U.S. Department of Justice against the company itself and former Chief Financial Officer Scott Sullivan, former company controller David Myers and perhaps former Chief Executive Bernard Ebbers, as early as next week.

In a statement, WorldCom spokesman Brad Burns said: "We have not been informed by any law enforcement authority that it presently intends to seek an indictment against the company."

"WorldCom disclosed the accounting entries leading to the announced restatement promptly upon discovery and since that time the company has been cooperating fully with all federal and state law enforcement authorities. We have been advised that those authorities are satisfied with WorldCom's cooperation to date," the statement said.
