The supervisory board of Deutsche Telekom AG (DT) has appointed Kai-Uwe Ricke as chief executive officer (CEO) of the German telecom giant, the company said Thursday.

Ricke, 41, will replace Helmut Sihler, the interim CEO who took over after Ron Sommer was ousted earlier in the year.

Sommer hired Ricke as head of the company's German wireless company. Ricke later became responsible for the group's wireless activities worldwide before being appointed to DT's board of management, responsible for wireless and Internet operations.
