Wireless operators race to offer 'push-to-talk'

In 1996, Nextel introduced its Direct Connect implementation of so-called "push-to-talk" services, which make handsets act more like a walkie-talkie - or an instant messaging client - than a cell phone. Now Verizon and other major U.S. and international carriers are finally getting in on what could prove to be a huge market.
