Analyst: Open source fight on the 'wrong battleground'

November 26, 2003, 3:47 PM — Much of the focus of the open source community has been on besting Microsoft's Windows operating system by improving Linux. But one Gartner analyst believes that there is real headway to be made by offering open source enterprise applications, like alternatives to Microsoft's Office suite, to cost-conscious businesses and government agencies.
