Network Associates Inc. (NAI), a provider of intrusion prevention solutions, has announced the availability of McAfee VirusScan for NetApp, which is said to deliver reliable anti-virus protection for data stored on Network Appliance devices.

The release of McAfee VirusScan for NetApp aims to offer important new features and upgrades, including integration with McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) and multiple storage system support, giving organizations greater control and visibility of their system security, the company adds.

With McAfee VirusScan for NetApp, NetApp customers can ensure that they have robust protection against malicious threats, such as viruses, worms, and Trojans, the company says.

Says Karla de Jong, senior systems engineer at Network Associates: "Network Associates is aware that an increasing number of enterprise customers are adopting Network Appliance solutions for their data consolidation needs, but, with this trend comes associated security risks. McAfee VirusScan for NetApp, combined with the centralized policy management and reporting capabilities of McAfee ePO, provides the comprehensive must-have server-based content security needed against viruses and malicious code threats."

Patrick Rogers, vice-president of alliances at Network Appliance, comments, "Companies are increasingly migrating and consolidating their data storage systems to Windows-based storage solutions. McAfee VirusScan for NetApp scans NetApp storage solutions and provides real-time virus protection for the massive amounts of critical information being stored and accessed by enterprise-level users."

McAfee VirusScan for NetApp is managed by McAfee ePO, the McAfee tool for system security management. It aims to allow ICT managers to maintain up-to-date protection, configure and enforce policies, and to generate detailed graphical reports on McAfee Security.

McAfee VirusScan for NetApp is designed to scan files across the network as they are moved to and from the NetApp storage systems. The Network Appliance systems are optimized to work together with McAfee VirusScan to ensure high-performance client access, greater data reliability and protection, and a lower total cost of ownership, the companies add.
