Fewer women joining the IT ranks
While problems in the education system are well documented, this year's Lemelson-MIT Invention Index shows a new trend on the lack of women in IT. Young girls appear to be increasingly influenced by America's celebrity-obsessed culture. 32 percent of the girls surveyed say they want to be an actress, 24 percent want to be a musician and 22 percent want to be an athlete. Only 10 percent want to get into the field of science/innovation. Though, there are efforts in progress to improve this trend.
