Oracle appoints new President and CFO

June 24, 2005, 09:33 AM —  IDG News Service —

Oracle Corp. appointed Gregory Maffei, a former Microsoft Corp. executive, as president. He will also take on the role of chief financial officer (CFO) from July, the company said Friday.

Maffei joined Microsoft in 1993 and took over as CFO there in July 1997, leaving in January 2000 to become chief executive officer (CEO) of 360Networks Corp.

At Oracle, his responsibilities will include the legal, human resources, manufacturing and distribution departments, and global real estate, the company said.

Oracle already has two presidents: Safra Catz and Charles Phillips.

Catz had been acting CFO since March, when Harry You left after just eight months in the job to become CEO of IT services company BearingPoint Inc. She joined Oracle from investment bank Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrettein April 1999, and was named president in January 2004. She is responsible for global operations, according to the company's Web site.

Phillips joined the company in May 2003 from investment advisor Morgan Stanley, where he was managing director of its technology group, and became president of Oracle in January 2004. He has responsibility for global field operations including consulting, marketing, sales, alliances, channels, customer programs, and corporate strategy, according to the Web site.

Maffei's appointment will not affect the responsibilities of Catz and Phillips, according Oracle spokesman Bob Wynne. Oracle will continue to have three presidents, each focusing on different aspects of the company's operations, he said.
