Microsoft Corp. on Wednesday announced the general availability of Small Business Server 2000, an integrated software suite for small businesses with 50 or fewer PCs.
Small Business Server 2000 is an integrated software suite for Internet access, e-mail, collaborative computing, shared printing and data management. The suite includes the Windows 2000 Server operating system with Service Pack 1, Exchange Server 2000 with Outlook 2000 for client applications, Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000, SQL Server 2000 and Front Page 2000. In addition, it also integrates shared fax and modem services.
Small Business Server 2000 is available from PC manufacturers, retail outlets, technology providers and consultants for an estimated price of US$1,499 for the server and five clients. Dell Computer Corp. already has said it will ship Small Business Server 2000 on its PowerEdge servers [See "Dell to pre-install Small Business Server 2000," Feb. 21, 2001].
Compaq Computer Corp. is also expected to put Small Business Server 2000 on its Compaq Proliant ML server models 330, 350 and 370, Microsoft said. Gateway Inc. will offer it on its Gateway 6400 and 7400 series servers and it also is expected to be adopted by Hewlett-Packard Co., Microsoft said.
