EnvoyWorldWide, a Billerica, Mass., start-up that guarantees the delivery of time-sensitive messages to any platform -- e-mail, telephone, fax, pager or wireless device -- has added a new feature that lets message recipients enter and maintain their own contact information. Called Envoy-Profiles, the feature requires message recipients to determine where, when and how they will receive their messages on different devices. This feature eliminates the burden of maintaining customer contact information for the message sender. For example, F-Secure, an antivirus software vendor, offers EnvoyProfiles to its customers so they can determine how they want to receive antivirus alerts. F-Secure used the Envoy-Profiles service for the first time earlier this month with the outbreak of a new strain of the Melissa virus. EnvoyProfiles costs $50,000, in addition to the standard EnvoyXpress hosted messaging service that costs between $25,000 and $40,000, depending on the complexity of the application.
