RealOne Player to ship with NEC PDAs
RealNetworks Inc.'s RealOne media player will ship with all NEC Solutions America Inc. MobilePro P300 handhelds, RealNetworks said Thursday.
The deal is an attempt by RealNetworks to gain ground in the personal digital assistant (PDA) arena. The MobilePro P300, targeted at corporate users, runs Microsoft Corp.'s Pocket PC 2002 software, which includes Microsoft's Windows Media Player.
The RealOne Player for Pocket PC allows users to play RealAudio and RealVideo files stored on their handhelds, as well as streaming audio and video. The software is offered for free to PDA users and can be dowloaded from RealNetworks' Web site. Devices currently supported include Hewlett-Packard Co.'s iPaq, Toshiba Corp.'s e570, and Casio Computer Co. Ltd.'s Cassiopeia.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
