Microsoft has released a tool that helps IT managers migrate users' settings and files from Windows NT and 9.X desktops to Windows 2000 Professional. The User State Migration Tool lets administrators selectively migrate settings, including dial-up networking, folders, display, Internet Explorer, network shares and Outlook.

Typically, these settings are migrated manually or using a script.

The command-line tool is available for free at www.microsoft.com/windows2000/news/bulletins/usmt.asp

LoudCloud Vice President Scott Dunlap says the access control service can be used by LoudCloud customers to define specific access by employees and trading partners to Web information or transactions. He declined to discuss fees for the extranet service.
