Siebel will feature SQL database

By Stewart Deck, Computer World |  Software

Microsoft Corp. and Siebel Systems Inc. today announced a partnership to package Microsoft's SQL Server 7.0 database with Siebel's sales and customer service applications.

Beginning July 15, Siebel will ship a version of its
front-office applications prepackaged with SQL Server 7.0. The San Mateo, Calif., company also will offer
$170-per-user upgrades to SQL Server for customers who now use rival databases from Oracle Corp. and other vendors. Oracle and Siebel are becoming bitter rivals as the former builds up its own series of customer management applications.
