Excite@Home buys iMall

Excite@Home is purchasing e-commerce destination iMall Inc. for about $425 million in Excite@Home stock, the company said this morning.

Excite@Home is a Redwood City, Calif., media company hoping to capitalize on the potential of broadband Internet access via content and commerce. IMall offers

e-commerce development and hosting service as well as a shopping site.

Excite@Home today also announced a deal with First Data Corp.'s First Data Merchant Services to help merchants create their own commerce sites with access to Excite users.

First Data/iMall offerings will be marketed through Excite@Home's business-to-business division, @Work.
