Tech firms bullish on jobs and revenues

March 17, 2005, 05:32 PM —  ITworld.com —

Technology companies are bullish about the year ahead according to the annual global IT confidence survey conducted by Eurocom Worldwide.

The survey, which covered senior executives in 232 global IT companies, found that confidence levels were high, with a significant majority (84 percent) expecting to increase revenues. Forty-four percent expect to increase jobs, while 52 percent said that head count levels would be maintained. Just 4 percent predicted layoffs.

None of the respondents surveyed were less confident about the year ahead: Forty percent were more confident and 60 percent retained the same levels of confidence.

"The study suggests that the tech recovery has well and truly kicked in. While we will never get back to the heady days of the dot.com boom, that is to be welcomed. This study suggests a more sustainable recovery," commented Mads Christensen of Eurocom Worldwide. "This was heralded in our survey last year, which predicted that recovery was likely to begin by the third quarter of 2004 at the latest."

The Eurocom Worldwide survey predicts a continuing movement of IT manufacturing jobs away from traditional Western economies to China, India and Central and Eastern European Region (CEER). Forty-three percent of respondents see China as the global region that will see the highest growth in IT manufacturing jobs over the next three years, followed by India (24 percent) and CEER (17 percent).

Eighty-six percent believe that the tech recovery has begun, although a little over one in ten are still waiting for the upturn.
