Sun changes CIOs
Sun Microsystems Inc. Monday appointed its chief information officer (CIO) to take on a new role as a leader in the company's government sales unit.
Bill Vass now is president and chief operating officer (COO) of Sun Microsystems Federal Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sun that serves customers in the government sector. Vass replaces the current COO of Sun Federal, John Marselle, who is retiring. He will report to Scott McNealy, chairman of Sun Federal. The co-founder of Sun recently stepped down as chief executive officer of the company after more than 20 years.
Prior to joining Sun in 2001, Vass served in various roles in the public sector, including in the Department of Defense. There, he was responsible for IT strategy, execution and deployment for parts of the department's IT infrastructure.
To fill the CIO post, Sun has appointed Robert Worrall, formerly Vass's vice president of information technology.
Also Monday, Sun appointed a new vice president of federal sales, Anthony Robbins. Robbins previously was at Silicon Graphics Inc. as senior vice president of worldwide sales.
