Cisco names new CIO
Cisco Systems Inc. has a new executive to spearhead the company's own use of IT.
On Tuesday, the company named Rebecca Jacoby as senior vice president and chief information officer. The 11-year Cisco veteran previously was vice president of customer service and operational systems. In that role, she had been handling some CIO roles while former CIO Brad Boston was shifting to a new position, spokeswoman Abby Smith said.
Cisco, the dominant networking vendor with 50,000 employees worldwide, is well known for using its own technology and promoting the benefits it has delivered in-house. Jacoby will manage IT strategy and operations for the whole company and oversee a staff of 1,800.
Jacoby has held several jobs at Cisco, including vice president of manufacturing and of customer service and operational systems. She helped re-engineer several processes in the company to improve efficiency and give employees and customers better service, according to a press release. Before joining Cisco, she worked at Ungermann Bass, Xidex and Amdahl Corp.
Earlier this year, Boston began moving into a new position in charge of Cisco's Global Government Solutions Group, which works with government customers and system integrators around the world. Since then, he has shared CIO responsibilities with Jacoby, Smith said.
