Cray sees $22.8 million in new orders

January 25, 2001, 05:31 PM —  InfoWorld —

(REUTERS) -- Supercomputer maker Cray Inc. said on Thursday that it had gotten $22.8 million in new orders and it expected fourth-quarter sales to be from $33.5 million to $35 million.

Cray shares rose $11/64, or 23 percent, to $2-1/64 in early Nasdaq trading.

The company said in a statement that it had received $22.8 million in new orders from government customers.

"The orders call for installation of Cray T3E supercomputer technology valued at approximately $21 million in the first quarter of 2001, and Cray SV1 supercomputer technology now through mid-2001," the statement said.

"... The delayed timing of previously forecast sales and orders is expected to result in fourth-quarter 2000 total revenues of approximately $33.5-35 million, and to contribute to expected year-end product order backlog of about $28 million."
