A recent survey of senior financial and IT executives at large U.S. corporations
reveals that U.S. organizations plan to keep project teams beyond Y2K projects to
strengthen project management skills across the board. Most teams reported being able
to confidently relate bad news to the top management, and virtually all agreed that the
executive staff was receptive to that type of information. A majority of the
respondents felt that organizations' project management skills need strengthening, with
CIOs overwhelmingly responding in the affirmative.

44% - Organizations that set up project management teams specifically to deal with
Y2K

59% - Organizations that will keep the teams in place over the long term

82% - Project management teams that have no qualms delivering bad news to the
executive staff

93% - Percent of executive staffs perceived to be receptive to bad news
