Judge rejects privacy suits against DoubleClick

Internet advertiser DoubleClick Inc. said in a statement last week that the privacy lawsuits filed against it had been dismissed by U.S. District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald, of the Southern District of New York. In the 71-page opinion, Buchwald dismissed class-action suits filed against DoubleClick, in which lawyers had alleged that its advertisement delivery practices violated the Electronic Privacy Act, the Wiretap Act, and the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. In January, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission dropped its investigation into whether DoubleClick acted improperly when it combined customer information with information taken from offline marketing company Abacus Direct, which DoubleClick had purchased.
