Intel Corp.'s annual Spring Intel Developer Forum (IDF) conference will not be held in the U.S. next year, a company official confirmed Wednesday. Instead, the world's largest chip maker is moving the event to Beijing.

IDF is a series of conferences held twice a year, named for the spring and fall seasons in the northern hemisphere where they are held. In previous years, both Spring and Fall IDF kicked off in San Francisco, where Intel's top executives made significant product announcements and outlined the company's future direction.

After the San Francisco event, Intel used to take the IDF conference on the road, hosting smaller conferences in cities around the world, including Tokyo, Bangalore, Seoul and Prague. That practice will apparently end next year when Intel will hold a single Spring IDF event in Beijing.

Dates for the Spring IDF conference were not immediately available.

While Intel does not plan to hold a Spring IDF conference in the U.S. next year, there will be a Fall IDF conference in San Francisco next year. That conference will be followed by a Fall IDF conference in Taipei, which is home to many of the world's largest computer hardware makers, the executive said.
