Sprint, Dell team on small-business Web hosting
Telecommunication company Sprint Corp. is joining forces with hardware maker Dell Computer Corp. to offer expanded Web hosting and electronic-commerce services to small and medium-sized businesses.
Under the terms of the deal, Sprint will use Dell PowerEdge servers and PowerVault storage for its hosting business, and Dell will purchase some telecom services from Sprint, Sprint spokeswoman Rebecca Sesler said.
Her company plans to roll out its own new array of hosting services by the end of the year, she said, adding that the new cooperation is meant to build on each company's core business, but will not entail the establishment of a joint venture.
"What we're doing is using their expertise and experience with Web hosting, allowing us to expand our products and services to include that," Sesler said.
For its part, Dell has offered Web hosting services to SMEs under the brand name DellHost since February 2000. It plans to integrate IP (Internet Protocol), frame relay, broadband and wireless services into its product line thanks to the Sprint alliance, the companies said in a joint statement.
Dell in Round Rock, Texas can be reached at +1-512-723-5512, or on the Web at http://www.dell.com/. Sprint, in Westwood, Kansas, can be reached at +1-913-624-3000, or via the Web at http://www.sprint.com/.
