iManage touts interactive Web sites for businesses
SEEKING TO HELP enterprises transform static Web sites into interactive work spaces, iManage this week introduced a suite of software designed to weave together elements of content management, collaboration, and business process mapping.
Dubbed iManage WorkSite, the set of integrated products includes an e-business platform and interlocking applications that connect the Internet, corporate intranets, and extranets.
WorkSite creates a central work space for employees, customers, and business partners to collaborate and access critical business information, said Shams Rashid, senior vice president of marketing at iManage, in San Mateo, Calif.
"Enterprises want to connect their value chain, create knowledge, and share information needed to conduct business," Rashid said. "The biggest headache for enterprises is to try to build a one-stop solution for all this. They can always do a patched-up solution -- get a portal, a knowledge management system, collaboration tools, and put it together.
By incorporating elements of content management, portals, collaboration, and work process logic, the WorkSite suite allows corporate information and interactive business tools to be integrated in one place, according to Rashid.
"It is more than a portal. We have taken the consumption-based Web site and extended it into an interactive Web site where business gets done. Today, portals don't have all these capabilities," Rashid said.
In addition, because WorkSite is a cohesive product suite, enterprises don't have to interface with a number of different vendors or worry about upgrading different pieces at different times, Rashid said.
The tight integration of collaboration functionality is particularly valuable for addressing the complexities of business-to-business commerce, according to Matt Volckmann, research analyst at the Hurwitz Group, in Framingham, Mass.
"For b-to-b commerce and doing transactions online, it is increasingly important for companies to be using solutions that allow them to collaborate with suppliers, partners, and customers. That is an area that companies are realizing they need," he said.
