Server management software reigned at LinuxWorld Conference & Expo, which ended Feb. 2. Among the new releases are products from Dell, Hewlett-Packard and SGI.

Dell rolled out the OpenManage Server Assistant for Linux, part of its OpenManage software suite. The Assistant will run on Red Hat servers and features installation and setup support, as well as remote management and integration with systems management suites from Tivoli, HP and Computer Associates.

HP will ship two software packages: Process Resource Manager (PRM) for Linux and Service Control Manager (SCM) for Linux. PRM lets IT staff prioritize resources and set up systems so that tasks can be handled appropriately. It also allows dynamic CPU modification, real-memory and disk bandwidth allocations, as well as optimizations of system resources by important applications. The software runs on HP-UX and will be available at the end of March.

HP’s SCM lets administrators enter commands once to invoke the execution of simultaneous tasks. It also runs on HP-UX and will be available in the third quarter.

SGI (formerly Silicon Graphics) introduced new software for its compact Web server. Called the Internet Server Environment, the software lets systems administrators install and configure Internet servers with automated scripts that handle Bastille security lockdown, as well as Apache and Sendmail installation and configuration. It costs $100 per server.
