April 23, 2001, 2:32 PM — For some reason, folks seem to be paying a lot of attention lately to "return on investment." Perhaps because of the economic slowdown, users are looking for more from management software - more efficient service delivery, smoother IT operations.

For whatever the reason, Enterprise Management Associates is in the middle of more ROI discussions than ever before. These discussions with users and vendors have led me to conclude that there is a mystique around ROI. While this mystique can be beneficial for consultants, it is not necessarily justified. I don
