Dell bolsters support, consulting services

Dell launched a series of services for enterprise networks that will help them deploy and configure database and application software.

Its Infrastructure Accelerator initiative is intended to shorten the time it takes for businesses to design, deploy, install and configure applications such as Oracle 8i, Microsoft Exchange and BizTalk Server 2000, Microsoft SQL Server and Commerce Server 2000, SAP's mySAP.com platform and i2's TradeMatrix Pronto and Supply Chain Management.

Dell has developed sizing and configuration tools for these applications and will provide consulting services to pre-load the applications on customers' servers and storage prior to shipment. Dell will act as the single point of accountability for the services purchased through its Infrastructure Accelerator program. The company will also offer the Oracle8i Appliance and the Oracle9i Application Server Appliance factory installed on Dell PowerEdge servers.

The company also announced Premier Enterprise Services, an expansion of its programs to businesses with mission-critical applications. Premier Enterprise Services includes an optional availability guarantee, spare equipment on-site and an on-site engineer.

Premier Enterprise Support offers four tiers of support -- Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze -- and allows customers to rely on Dell's experience planning, building and optimizing enterprise infrastructures.

Dell presently has 500 to 600 consultants involved in integration projects.

The Infrastructure Accelerator services will be available immediately. Premier Enterprise Services will be available this year. Pricing depends on the type of support required.
