'Facility issues' knock Cisco.com offline
Part of networking giant Cisco Systems Inc'.s Web site was knocked offline Wednesday, due to undisclosed "facility issues," the company said.
The main www.cisco.com page first went down Wednesday morning. It was offline at 11 a.m. Pacific Time and remained out of service for more than two and a half hours, returning online around 1:45 p.m.
The networking giant offered little explanation for the problem.
"Cisco is experiencing some facility issues that are impacting services to Cisco.com," the company said in a post to its official blog -- which was still operational. "We have identified the cause of the issue and are working to quickly restore services. We will update this blog with new information as the situation warrants."
As one might expect, downtime like this is extremely unusual for Cisco, the dominant provider of the networking hardware used to keep Web sites running.
According to uptime measurements from Pingdom.com, the site was down for only 2 minutes last month, and averages 99.94 percent uptime.
