GXS acquires logistics services vendor Celarix
Business-to-business e-commerce network Global Exchange Services Inc. (GXS) has acquired Cambridge, Massachusetts-based supply-chain optimization software and services vendor Celarix Inc., the companies said Wednesday. The two privately held companies did not disclose terms of the transaction.
GXS, in Gaithersburg, Maryland, will continue selling Celarix's products. Celarix's real-time tracking of order and shipment status, and its supply-chain event management features will help solve tricky logistics problems in shipment tracking for GXS' customers, GXS Chief Executive Officer Harvey Seegers said. GXS' network connects 100,000 trading partners and processes 1 billion transactions annually.
With this purchase, GXS brings to smaller organizations shipment visibility services previously available only to the largest corporations, AMR Research Inc. analyst John Fontanella said in a research note.
"(Companies) understand the value of an electronically integrated supply chain, but also recognize the difficulties in doing it themselves. Many attempts to date have been frustrated by the lack of technical sophistication of their partners along with the significant expense of integration," Fontanella wrote. "The combined services of GXS and Celarix now provide a cost effective way to secure the know-how and the technology."
