Oracle teams up with KnowledgeStorm on B-to-B

July 18, 2001, 04:37 PM —  InfoWorld.com —

Oracle Corp. has tapped KnowledgeStorm Inc. as the software and service provider for its new online partners' marketplace that will connect buyers to Oracle's 13,000 business partners.

KnowledgeStorm, which now hosts an online marketplace that offers 22,000 IT solutions from 3,700 vendors, will host Oracle's new Partners Solutions Marketplace and populate the content of the site, said Kelly Gay, president and CEO of Atlanta-based KnowledgeStorm.

The site, set to be rolled out this fall, will extend Oracle partners' market reach beyond traditional boundaries, allowing them to match their solutions and services to buyers worldwide, said Barbara McAteer, Oracle alliances vice president, in Redwood Shores, Calif. Oracle tapped KnowledgeStorm for its proven platform and its ability to efficiently connect Oracle partners with buyers, she said.

Analysts are predicting that 60 percent of IT company revenue will come from indirect channels, Gay said. Companies that excel in helping their partners move products through the channel will find themselves with a higher level of partner loyalty as well as end-customer satisfaction, she added.

"The war for partners is very important given the sheer volume of information that flows through partners," Gay said. "[Oracle's marketplace] helps IT buyers have access to complete solution information. [Oracle] wants to be able to provide their partners the kind of visibility a Yahoo would provide. That helps drive leads and inquiries."

William Donahoo, vice president of business development at BMC Software Inc., said that it is crucial for BMC to reach motivated buyers rapidly and securely. Now that Oracle has adopted KnowledgeStorm's partner platform, it will be even easier for customers to connect with BMC through Oracle's site, he said.
