IT outsourcing providers were largely unscathed by the economic downturn throughout much of 2008. But by the end of the year CIOs were too distracted by the economic destruction surround them to do any outsourcing deals. That's all poised to change in 2009. The only problem is, that may be bad news for both IT services providers and their IT leader customers.
Anecdotal evidence suggests that the channel is weathering the sluggish economy better than most, but that's not to say there are challenges. There's no question that margins are deteriorating, and members of the sales channel have to do more than just resell products to stay afloat. According to a new Accenture report, channel partners are trying to beef up their bottom lines by continuing to add new services and solutions.
A report from Accenture that looks at the impact of emerging technologies on reducing power consumption in data centers has largely upheld the findings in a study published last year by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Where Google Chrome security fails: the password I heard mention that the Chrome OS will have some sort of encryption available a la bitlocker. If it's possible to encrypt personal data using another password or key, then it may have potential for very secure data.... And Ubuntu has an 'encrypt home directory' option, perhaps google should follow suit.
