If you want to do it right, it is going to take some time. There is no way around that, unless you want to use some kind of junky instagram type filters with results that will reflect your lack of effort. Here is a step by step guide. Just take your time, and it should look pretty good at the end. I've seen some that are really convincing.

So what's new this Ubuntu release season....or should I ask, "What's GNU?" Any major changes?

Over the past six months, Apple's stock is down over $300 per share, and the total loss of market value adds up to about $290 billion. Yeah, billion with a "b". What's behind this? Apple hasn't suddenly imploded that I'm aware of, and they are still selling boat loads of iPads and iPhones.

There are always going to be the "usual suspects", like San Jose/San Francisco, Austin, New York, etc. The thing is that everyone knows about them, and competition can be fierce for good positions.

I have a young daughter (age 9) who likes to just watch me play games as well as play on her own. I don't play Borderlands or Gears of War with her around, but she likes to watch games like Zelda: Skyward Sword on the Wii and we've played Lego Lord of the Rings on the x360 together.

I feel like my carrier is ripping me off, and every month I have to pay nearly $100 for what I consider a pretty basic plan. I was complaining about it at work, and a co-worker suggested just use my Android smartphone without a plan at all. After my contract is up, I might try it, but how realistic is this plan?

Recently, things like the internal links to news stories at Wired and the log-in here at IT World won't work with Chrome. I've had to switch over to Firefox to fully use both sites. This is also happening at some other websites too, although the majority of sites still work fine.

I may be paranoid, but like the old saying, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean that they aren't watching you.

Most of the speculation is that it will be sometime this spring. Google has introduced new versions of Android at Google I/O in the past, and there was leaked material from Qualcomm that suggested a spring 2013 release as well. Assuming that is correct, and of course it may not be, it will still take some time until you see 5.0 "in the wild".

I use VeriFace to log onto my Lenovo laptop by default. It is quick and logs me in easily, but I have to wonder how secure it really is. Would some other brown haired, blue-eyed guy in his 30s fool the software on my laptop, for example? I'm a big fan of making things easier for myself, but I do need a modicum of security too.

They are similar but different. The cost is pretty close, although you have to pay $79 for a year's membership in Amazon Prime in a single payment vs $7.99 a month for Netflix. Netflix has a generally wider selection of movies and shows, but there is a lot of overlap between them and Amazon.

Yahoo's CEO Marissa Mayer identified improving Yahoo search as a key goal of the company while discussing 4Q earnings earlier this week. If I'm not mistaken, Yahoo doesn't even HAVE it's own search engine any longer, it just farms searches out to Bing.

aiden answers Re: What is the best choice for a small company, peer-to-peer network or a dedicated server? If you have limited needs for a network, say for example, you just want to be able to share a printer with all of your machines, then you may be ok with peer-to-peer.14 weeks 2 days ago

Are there specific steps beyond standard network security practices that a business should take to make a VoIP system more secure?

I was using custom domains that were assigned to user names with Lync Online, and that seems to be preventing me from using them with Office 365. Any idea how I go about reusing them?

It's not a problem. Jerry Hildenbrand addressed this concern on Adroidcentral a couple days ago. Essentially, Android doesn't use Java in the browser, which is where the Java vulnerability was before the latest patch from Oracle. http://www.androidcentral.com/mail-bag-android-affected-java-security-is...

I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 on my laptop, but when I went to use BitLocker to encrypt the drive, I couldn't find where to access it. Any ideas how to access BitLocker in Windows 8?

We've started getting white lines through text on our network printer (an Epson Inkjet). Ink level is fine, and there are no warnings popping up. Any ideas on what the issue is and how to fix it?

The range is pretty short, as you noted. Otherwise, sure, you can do it, but the speed is going to be crawling slow vs. WiFi. I think the max transfer speed over Bluetooth is around 1Mbps, which is pretty pathetic compared to even a crummy internet connection over WiFi.

I know that there are a few different Siri-like personal assistant apps available for Android. Are they any good? Do they work as well as Siri?

If you are looking to get solid software but don't have money to spend, why not just go with Google Apps or Open Office. Obviously, your needs will differ based on your major, but for the most part you need the basics - a decent word processor, a good calendar, and perhaps a spreadsheet.

You will be fine, people do it all the time, just look around you after you board the plane. Maybe you will get lucky and see Alec Baldwin playing Words with Friends.

Does anyone know what the InPrivate browser setting on IE actually hides and doesn't hide?

All the junk software in the world isn't going to do you any good if you don't have a Blu-ray drive, which you probably don't. A lot of dishonest snake-oil salesmen will push software - they just "forget" to mention the fact that you have to have the proper hardware for it to work.
