    Dell's gamer-friendly Alienware brand is extending its reach to include monitors, and the 21.5-inch widescreen 1080p OptX AW2210 ($300 as of November 11, 2009) serves up a lot to like: solid image quality, accessible and comprehensive built-in menus, and an exterior design that stands out from the generally conservative competition.

    Well, you knew it was only a matter of time. Last week we reported on HP's lines of laptops hitting the streets this fall, and today, as Intel officially lifts the lid on the mobile Core i7 processor (the artist formerly known as "Clarksfield"), Dell follows suit.

    When Alienware reps set the new M17x in front of me for a demo, my first thought was "If I just sit here and look at this thing, will it transform into a robot--or a 2009 Dodge Charger?"

    Does the m17 deliver the goods? Yes. I've roamed Fallout 3's post-apocalyptic wastelands at the laptop's 1920-by-1200-pixel native resolution. It's completely playable, and I didn't run into any game-killing snags.
