What I would like to know is how you are finding SMP PREEMPT? Are you using terminal emulator to access Linux command line shell, or is this displayed on the version of Android your phone is running (you didn't mention Android, but it must be)? SMP PREEMPT means that the Linux kernel version on your device will support multiple processor cores, but I'm not sure what the date indicates. I suppose it could mean the date of the original kernel build, or the date that device was first "brought to life" but I'm not certain which. Assuming that it specific to that device, 5 months isn't really all THAT long. Keep in mind, these things are literally shipped in containers from Asia, and before that they have to get from the factory to the port. Once in the US, they have to make it from the port to the distribution point, then go out to retailers, then make it from the retailers storage to shelf, then from the shelf into the consumer's hands. I could see that taking 5 months, especially if the model wasn't selling that quickly, or it ended up on a retail shelf that didn't move a lot of product.
