How much of an issue is age discrimination in IT?

As I get older and start getting AARP mailings and Jitterbug phone adverts, I find I start thinking about whether age will be a significant limiting factor in a career. I’m in my 40s now, and I’m wondering if that is something that will work against me. Do you see many hiring decisions based on the age of the applicant?
