I want to get involved in cloud based open source projects. Can some one please list out few projects and active community?

You should check out Sourceforge for open source projects. There's tons of stuff there you can get involved with and that you can contribute to in terms of development.

If you are a student there is the Google Summer of Code each year, but I think the deadlines for this year have already passed. I can't think if any specific open source projects off the top of my head, but Andrew Binstock wrote an article last year about how to contribute to open source projects.
