ITworld just did a feature on the Drupal job market:

Making money in open source: Drupal future looks bright

Here's an outtake:

According to Angela Byron, a Drupal 7 core maintainer and open source evangelist who lives and breathes Drupal:

"There are definitely Drupal jobs out there. Drupal Jobs is the semi-official place to post them ... You can also find Drupal jobs in all the usual places: Monster.com, Craigslist.com, and so on."

Open source is hot right now, and there is definitely money in it. Anyone who tells you otherwise is steering you out of the way…Opportunities for talented Drupal developers are increasing – whether you are a designer, developer, database/system admin or an artist – because of nothing else but good ol’ S&D. The demand for Drupal developers is gaining steam every day. Literally.

In general, though, employers are not necessarily looking first at Drupal experience, and this is something that can be seen somewhat across the board when it comes to hiring of developers. A lot of companies, although certainly wanting to find skilled, proficient developers, will place an emphasis on finding people who have displayed verifiable tendencies toward open source, either as contributors or users. So, yes. The demand is there. But remember that, although experience is almost always good, some companies will be looking more at your overall capacities as a problem-solving, technical person than a ‘Drupal developer.’

Check out Drupal Jobs, for sure, and you will also find an increasing demand for Drupal should you peruse the old job site heavyweights (craigslist, monster, etc). There are quite a few companies using Drupal as a primary tool and developers are, right now, in demand. Themers are also in demand right now and there are opportunities out there as well for Quality Assurance and Testing specialists.

One good way of taking a peek at demand is to check out Simply Hired's Drupal job listings. You can fine-tune the search by location. Here's a general link though.

That will give you an idea of how many companies are looking for Drupal developers, and what their requirements are in terms of experience.

We need to train more good Drupalistas. Almost every Drupal company I talked to is trying to hire talented Drupal developers, but can't find any. The demand for Drupal talent continues to exceed the supply. It is, in fact, holding back Drupal's adoption.
