What is IT process automation?
All IT systems have rules and procedures for their correct and efficient operation. Run Books, “Cheat Sheets” or Operations Manuals offer pages of information to the reader on how and when to perform specific tasks and procedures, but that is where they stop.
Many companies spend large amounts of time and effort defining their internal processes, and then hope that employees follow them. But in a world of rapidly changing technologies and fluid company operations, simply defining procedures is not enough.
IT Process Automation (ITPA) takes all this process knowledge and automates it, providing rapid, repeatable and error-free implementation of virtually any operational activities and processes.

It's a way of automating processes between applications, departments or data silos. It's the same thing as Run Book Automation (RBA). Opalis IT Process Automation from Microsoft is one way to integrate System Center with other systems. As Microsoft puts it, Opalis "helps automate, integrate, and orchestrate operational processes across multiple data, departmental and application silos.......and help[s] align IT services with business bjectives through repeatable, reliable, and standardized best practices."
