How to print from a mobile device

tom

I'm shopping around for mobile devices (mostly smart phones) for a sales team that needs to be able to print files while in the field. Which of the smart phone vendors should I look at first?

Here's some info about iOS AirPrint, in case you end up getting an iPhone or iPad.

iOS: AirPrint 101
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356

"AirPrint-enabled applications can print to a printer that supports AirPrint—and you don't need to install a driver or configure the printer queue. Tap print, select the printer that supports AirPrint, and print. It's that simple."

Pretty much any smartphone will allow printing over a wi-fi connection.  I'm not as familiar with iPhones/iPads as I am with Android.  On the Android Market, there are a few different apps that allow you to print files directly from your device.  PrinterShare is free and has been around for a while.  There is also the Cloud Print app, also free, which has very positive reviews.  You will need to enable the Cloud Print connector on you PC/Mac, but after you have done that you can print to your enabled printer from wherever you are with your device.  Google's landing page for Cloud Print can guide you through the steps.  http://www.google.com/landing/cloudprint/

If that isn't what you are looking for and you want to be able to print anywhere and everywhere, you need to look at portable printers.  Brother makes PocketJet mobile printers that are very compact and can print 8.5"x11" documents.
