How to use social media to increase app downloads

I'm looking for tips on how to add social media efforts into my marketing of our mobile app. Also, what companies (say, top 5) in any vertical are the most successfully marketing their mobile apps through social media - in your opinion. Thanks.

I think it makes sense for you to have a presence on the major social networks. Use tools that allow you to easily post updates in people's news feeds. For example, if you have a blog make sure you have it integrated with Facebook, Twitter, etc. so that when you post about new products, software updates, etc. people on those networks will see it.
It may also help if you participate in discussions on social media networks, forums, etc. that are related to your apps. This gives you credibility and may attract people to your app over time as they read your posts and realize that you are giving back to the community.
