It can mean either Model to Model or Machine to Machine communications.  I don't know too much about Model to Model, other than I think it is a variation on Machine to Machine, but if that's what you are asking about, perhaps this link is helpful:

If you are talking about Machine to Machine, that is communication between different machines over a network.  Basically, the integration of technology.  Wikipedia gives you a basic overview.
