What is the best way to recover deleted files on a Mac?

TheCount

My wife accidentally deleted some files on her Mac and wants me to help her recover them. I'm a Windows user and I've used Recova in the past with some success on PCs, but I'm not sure what would be the best way to go about trying to undelete Mac files. What do Mac users suggest using for file recovery?

You might want to check out Disk Drill as well.  It is not freeware to actually use Disk Drill to recover files, but it is free to install.  Which is nice.  I guess.  Whatever, it is worth paying for anyway.  It is very user friendly, so if you are not a Mac user, it should still be painless to use.

File recovery...Again file recovery. It is a complicated process that we normal users cannot handle by ourselves. All we can depend on is repair shop or software. As you ask for the software, here I recommend you one, check this to see if it can help you or not: http://www.uflysoft.com/data-recovery-mac/

I agree with you and I don't think there is a best app on the world. All we can find is the appropriate software.

Absolutely right. I inadvertently deleted 30GB of precious photos last year and was able to recover 100% of them using Subrosa's FileSalvage. It is worth every single cent of it's $89.95 price tag and then some. Good luck.

Is your Mac set up with Time Machine? If so you should be able to get the deleted files that way. Click the Time Machine icon in the dock. Then go back to before you deleted the files, they are probably still available.

That link will take you to a page about Time Machine. Click the Restoring Data From Time Machine Backups option. That should get you started.

You can find Data Rescue 3 here: http://tinyurl.com/recover-delete-file It is not free, but will let you see what it can recover and will recover one test file without a purchase. As for firewire target disk mode, the hard drive should show up as if it were an external hard drive on the other Mac, with or without any data recovery software. You may even be able to copy the files over directly, and not bother with the recover software.

Does your wife use Time Machine on the Mac? If so, I think it would be easy to recover the deleted files.

If not, she may need a tool to recover deleted files for Mac. There are quite a lot of choices.

Good luck!

Not familiar with data-recovery issues.

I wonder if any apps can help you recover files by folders.

Some of my friends use Data Recovery Pro to restore deleted data.

I've never used because it's expensive.

If you have backup, the best way is restoring from backup. If not, you have to use mac data recovery software to recover deleted photos from Mac.
