Why is Linux so unsuccessful in the market?
The top 500 supercomputers list (http://www.top500.org/) shows that the top 10 fastest computers in the world are all running Linux. If Linux is so much faster than Windows and the Mac, how come nobody has been able to make Linux more popular on the desktop?

Linux is doing just fine on the desktop. While it may not have the official market share that Windows or Mac OS X has, it's got its own niche. Many people use and enjoy Linux as their desktop OS of choice.
You can always check out desktop distros by visiting DistroWatch. It's a great place to find the latest versions of popular distros.

When I was teaching kernel debugging courses to IBM, their embedded software engineers reminded me that embedded Linux is the biggest market for Linux. Also, Android is a version of Linux, which just hides what is underneath. If you root an Android device, you will find Linux. While Windows may rule the desktop world, Linux is much more common in the server market, the embedded device market, and the mobile device market.
