Although running VMWare  Workstation likely loses some CPU cycles when I run Windows virtualized, I have been able to run Windows –based apps, including collaboration tools, media players and video converters without much hassle. It should be fine running UC apps since the hardware abstraction layer of the VMWare Workstation software is interfacing directly with the host operating system.

This really depends on the bandwidth of the multimedia in question and the number of users accessing the media. One user accessing a 640x480x30fps video, no problem at all, 100 users simultaneous watching a 1080p60 video, big problem.
