What’s the difference between Windows mainstream support and extended support?


Are users still getting important patches if their version of Windows is in the extended support phase instead of mainstream support, like Windows Vista for example?

Both mainstream and extended Windows support includes paid support, security update support and access to Microsoft Knowledge Base and online help. Here's what the extended version doesn't include:

Warranty claims

Design changes and feature requests

Yes, they will still be getting security patches and updates during extended support. There won’t be non-security updates or additional features added, but I doubt anyone using Vista would be expecting that anyway at this stage of the lifecycle.
