  • iOS owned again; Greenpois0n now jailbreaks Apple TV

    Posted February 14, 2011 - 10:40 pm

Well, it's already happened again. GreenpoisOn has broken iOS 4.2.1 with an untethered jailbreak for AppleTV called RC6. An untethered jailbreak means that the jailbreak persists through a reboot, making it a useful one for the jailbreak community, since the current offers only have jailbreaks that vanish when you power off the box. NitoTV, a weather app that ran on the original jailbreaking of the AppleTV back in October helped with this, and that software package is auto loaded with the hack.

Devices that connect your TV to the Internet (and your PC) aren't new, but this holiday season offers a much bigger set of choices (of manufacturers and ways to interact with content). Narrowing down what you want to watch and how you want to access it is the key to picking your best option.

  • Five things to do with your old Apple TV

    Posted October 20, 2010 - 11:37 am

Given the new Apple TV's lower-price, more responsive performance, and Netflix support, it's likely that owners of the original Apple TV are unplugging the things by the score and replacing them with the current model. But, when doing so, they've surely wondered what to do with the old one. We have some suggestions.

  • Now is the Apple TV more than a hobby?

It’s rare that Apple announces a product without slathering the object of that announcement with superlatives—Great! Fantastic! Awesome! Amazing! Yet the original Apple TV—after it became clear that it had failed the iPod is to portable media as _________ is to on-demand TV comparison—earned little more from Apple than an indulgent shrug and the “Hobby” label.
