Install Linux kernel 3.14.13 in Ubuntu 14.04

Add Linux kernel 3.14.13 to your Ubuntu 14.04 system

Linux kernel 3.14.13 has been released. You can view a full list of changes in kernel 3.14.13 in the LKML.org thread announcement of the new kernel. Highlights include better AMD Radeon driver support as well as more support for Intel's Broadwell GPUs.

Please note that the commands below are different for 32-bit and 64-bit systems, so be sure to use the appropriate ones when you do your install.

Here's how you can install kernel 3.14.13 in Ubuntu 14.04.

1. Open a terminal window.

2. Type in the following commands then hit Enter after each:

For 32-bit Ubuntu systems:

wget kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.13-utopic/linux-headers-3.14.13-031413_3.14.13-031413.201407171953_all.deb

wget kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.13-utopic/linux-headers-3.14.13-031413-generic_3.14.13-031413.201407171953_i386.deb

wget kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.13-utopic/linux-image-3.14.13-031413-generic_3.14.13-031413.201407171953_i386.deb

sudo dpkg -i linux-image-3.14*.deb linux-headers-3.14*.deb

For 64-bit Ubuntu systems:

wget kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.13-utopic/linux-headers-3.14.13-031413_3.14.13-031413.201407171953_all.deb

wget kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.13-utopic/linux-headers-3.14.13-031413-generic_3.14.13-031413.201407171953_amd64.deb

wget kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.14.13-utopic/linux-image-3.14.13-031413-generic_3.14.13-031413.201407171953_amd64.deb

sudo dpkg -i linux-image-3.14*.deb linux-headers-3.14*.deb

3. Use this command to remove kernel 3.14.13:

sudo apt-get remove linux-image-3.14* linux-headers-3.14*
